Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 July 2026

TheSunniWay (“TheSunniWay”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a UK-based Islamic educational charity based at Symonds Road, Preston, Lancashire, UK. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use:

  • our website at thesunniway.com and its subdomains (the “Website”);
  • our TheSunniWay mobile applications for iOS and Android (the “Apps”);

together, the “Services”. By using the Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you give us

  • Account information.If you create an account or sign in (including “Sign in with Google”), we collect your name, email address, and a unique account identifier. Authentication is handled by our database provider, Supabase.
  • Donations and payments.If you make a donation or purchase, our payment processor, Stripe, collects your payment card details and billing information directly — we never see or store your full card number. We retain a record of the donation amount, date, and the donor name/email you provide for receipting and Gift Aid purposes (UK donations only).
  • Course and learning activity. If you enrol on a course through our learning platform, we store your enrolment, lesson progress, and any content you submit (e.g. quiz answers).
  • Communications. If you contact us via our contact form or email ([email protected]), we collect the information you include in that message.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Usage and device data. We use Google Analytics on the Website, and an app analytics/crash-reporting SDK in the Apps, to collect information such as device type, operating system, app version, pages or screens viewed, links clicked, approximate location (derived from IP address), and crash/diagnostic logs. This helps us understand how the Services are used and fix bugs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. The Website uses cookies and similar technologies (e.g. to keep you signed in and to power analytics). The Apps use equivalent device identifiers rather than browser cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect parts of the Website.
  • Video playback. Recorded lectures and naats are served via embedded YouTube players. YouTube/Google may collect data about your interaction with embedded videos in accordance with their own privacy policy.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Website and Apps;
  • To create and manage your account and course enrolments;
  • To process donations and payments, and issue receipts;
  • To respond to enquiries sent through our contact form or by email;
  • To send service communications (e.g. course updates, donation receipts);
  • To understand usage of the Services, diagnose technical issues, and improve content and features;
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues; and
  • To comply with our legal obligations, including UK Gift Aid record-keeping.

3. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, including Supabase (authentication and database hosting), Stripe (payment processing), Sanity (content management), Google Analytics (analytics), YouTube/Google (video hosting), and Microsoft Azure (application hosting);
  • Legal and safety purposes, where required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TheSunniWay, our users, or others; and
  • Business transfers, if TheSunniWay were involved in a merger, reorganisation, or transfer of assets — we would notify you of any resulting change in ownership or use of your information.

4. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations (for example, UK Gift Aid records must be kept for at least 6 years), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 6).

5. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls on our databases and hosting infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, or to delete your account, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

You can also uninstall the Apps at any time, which will stop any further collection of device-level analytics from that device, and you can manage push notification and other permissions through your device’s operating system settings.

7. Children’s privacy

Our courses and content are designed for a general audience, including students of our madrasah who may be under 18. Where a learner is a child, an account is expected to be registered and managed by a parent, guardian, or the madrasah on their behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without such consent, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. International data transfers

We are based in the United Kingdom, but some of our service providers (listed in Section 3) may process and store data outside the UK, including in the United States and European Economic Area. Where this occurs, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, as required by UK data protection law.

9. Third-party links and services

The Services may contain links to third-party websites or embed third-party content (such as YouTube videos or social media). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Website, the Apps, or by email. Continued use of the Services after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
