Spiritual Assistance from Non Muslims

Question

Can a Muslim go to a non Muslim to seek spiritual help for example the Muslim goes to the non Muslim seeking help for Jinns Black magic or medical condition and the non Muslim reads something from his religious book and blows on some water and then gives that water to the Muslim.

What is the religious ruling for a Muslim that has done the above? and is this permitted in the shariah?

Please remember in your duas.

JazakAllah Khayr

Answer

It is not permissible and it is an act of kufr to seek spiritual help from a person who is not a Muslim and practises black magic or any other form of witchcraft, sorcery or voodoo. This is because they seek help from the devil and use words of shirk and kufr in their chants. In a Hadith, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that he who comes to a kaahin (fortune teller) and believes what he says has freed (himself) from that which Allah revealed upon Muhammad ﷺ. This has been recorded by Imam Abu Dawood in his Sunan and Allah knows best.

As for medical help in physical sicknesses and illnesses from non Muslims, it is permissible as long the practitioner does not use impure substances in his treatments and medicines and Allah knows best.

Answer

Wa Alaykum Al-Salam

It is upsetting to hear your situation and I pray to Allah, through the waseelah of our pious predecessors, that you are relieved from all this evil, as soon as possible.

You should recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Naas seven times each every day, before sleeping and every morning after waking up, then blow in to your hands and rub your hands over your face and body. Also, for eleven days consecutively, every morning and evening you should do the following amal:

"Get a plate and fill it less than full with water; then get a knife and hold it in your hand whilst you recite Surah Al-Falaq. After reciting it, blow on to the knife blade and then cut through (run the knife through) the water from the top to the bottom. Then recite Surah Al-Naas and do the same; only that this time, you will cut through the water from right to left. This is regarded as one set. You must do seven sets, then drink the water and rub some on to your face and anywhere else you wish on the body."

If you will do the amal twice a day for eleven days consecutively, I am certain that through the power of the Kalam of Allah, you will be relieved from this evil.

And Allah knows best.
